We welcome you to use the collections of the Cincinnati History Library and Archives. However, to insure the security and preservation of the library materials, use of the collections is subject to the rules listed below.|
Researchers using the library collections must complete and sign a Registration Form. Photo I.D. must be presented when you register. By completing and signing the Registration Form, you acknowledge that you will abide by these rules. The Cincinnati History Library and Archives will keep records of collections use, including research topics and materials used. These records are for administrative use only.
No Coats, Rainwear, etc. in the Library
A coatroom is available, located off the Library lobby. All briefcases, large handbags, books, newspapers, and other personal belonging must be placed in the coatroom. Lockers are provided for the convenience of our patrons. The Cincinnati History Library and Archives is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
No Food, No Beverages, and No Smoking.
No Use of Cell Phones, Cameras, or Scanning Devices.
Only Pencils May Be Used when Handling Materials
Pencils are available on the library tables for your use. When taking notes, please place the note paper on the table, not on the material being examined.
Tape recorders, typewriters and personal computers are permitted if such use does not disturb others.
Materials Must Be Handled with Care
Many of the library materials are old, rare, unique, and are easily damaged. Never lay open books face down on the table or prop them open with another book or object. Acid-free strips of paper are available at the reference desk for use as page markers. If you find uncut pages, please take the item to the reference desk. Never try to cut them yourself. Theft or mutilation of library materials is a crime that will be prosecuted. (Ohio Revised Code, 2935.041)
Call Slips Must Be Turned in by 4:30 P.M.
This is a Closed Stack Library. A Call Slip must be completed and signed for each item requested and must be turned in at the reference desk before 4:30 P.M. (30 minutes before the library closes). Call slips are retained by the Library.
You may retrieve reference books shelved in the Reading Room. Please do not reshelve them.
Departing the Library
If you leave the Reading Room for a short period of time, notify the reference staff of your absence.
When you finish using materials, return them to the reference desk. Please wait while the items are discharged from your record. You must return all items by 5 P.M.
